3 Jürgen Dahm's help for children (Nepal + Indonesia): Latest News

This is just an update. For more complete information please read the annual report of September 2001 and the reports that are linked from there, as well as the "Latest News" of my time spent in Nepal during autumn 2001.

Latest News

Nepal, Feb.-May 2002

(To be read from bottom to top!)

17.3.2002: SORRY! (once again) - I just don't find the time to translate all the German reports into English. We finished two big surgeries and if you would like to see some photos (though with the explanations in German) you can find some photos of Kumar with his burnt hands and many photos of Saugat who was burnt from his navel to his knees when he was seven years old.

22.2.2002: Not that many news yet ...
Nearly 80 of our children I have met already; and I pay up to 45 lunches every day.
Mukesh spent more money than we had expected. So first of all I had to pay ours depts at the medical shop, the stationery's and the hotel - and every day children or parents come with bills that they paid themselves or even borrowed money to pay them.
All of our kids quit the glue-sniffing and I am very happy about this! (There is only one group near Mahaboudha that is still heavily addicted.)
One ten year old boy that I had tried to send to school for years (but in vain, because the mother did not co-operate) was admitted at the hostel of a private boarding school by some other tourist. I am very happy that he finally is away from the streets.
Mukesh fixed the date for the surgeries for the two burned children both on 11th March.
The boy who in autumn quit school and followed his father to work in India, has been caught by the indian police as a suspected thief. Luckily he was not detained in India, but sent to jail in Nepal, where he was released soon. Now he is looking for work and does not want to go to school any more.
I spend my time between the children, doctors, e-mail and computer, working hard on the translation of that APA-Guidebook.

19.2.2002: Yesterday I finally arrived back in Nepal. I had spent a nice (though short) night at a 4-star Hotel in Abu Dhabi (which was included in the flight ticket) and landed at Kathmandu at 4.40 p.m. Immigration was quick and I reached my room about 6 p.m.
Now once again I am looking forward to 10 interesting weeks and hopefully my reports here will be as interesting to you as my work is for myself. - But please give me a few days to get myself organised before I shall start writing here more interesting news.
